Fallon Sherrock and Scott Waites were crowned the ladies and men’s 2015 British Classic champions in Bridlington on Saturday.
The 2015 British Classic took place in Bridlington on Saturday as Sherrock and Waites came through stellar fields to claim their titles at the 19th edition of the tournament that was first held back in 1997.
Waites, who reached the final in 2009 when he lost to Stephen Bunting, defeated two of this year’s Lakeside semi-finalist in winning the tournament – notching up victories over three-time world champion Martin Adams in the semi-finals and world number one Glen Durrant in the final.
‘Scotty 2 Hotty’ was exceptional in seeing off Adams 5-2 to set up a final with Durrant, who edged out Jamie Hughes 5-4 in his semi-final – Waites held off a spirited comeback from the Teesside thrower, who leveled up at 5-5 from 5-2 down to win the deciding leg.
Sherrock was equally as impressive in the ladies draw as the world number three defeated both the nine-time and three-time world champions Trina Gulliver and Anastasia Dobromyslova on her way to the British Classic title.
The Milton Keynes girl came through a tough quarter-final against Zoe Jones, winning 4-3, before denying Gulliver a comeback in the semi-final – ‘The Golden Girl’ threatened from 3-0 down as she clawed back to 3-2 before Sherrock completed the job for a 4-2 victory.
Her opponent in the final, Dobromyslova, knocked out the recently-crowned world number one Lisa Ashton in the other semi-final, 4-3, to meet Sherrock who defeated the former world champion 5-3.
