WORLD TROPHY, FIRST CHALLENGE FOR ‘THE COUNT’ ON BDO RETURN
Ted ‘The Count’ Hankey will be celebrating his comeback to the BDO when he battles it out at the new BDO Daily Mirror World Trophy at Blackpool Tower next month (February).
The double world champion has announced that he will return to the BDO after two years playing on the PDC circuit.
He said that he now felt the time was right to return to the BDO to progress his career.
“Something just didn’t feel quite right and the penny dropped when I watched the opening game of the Lakeside this year – I really miss playing on the BDO circuit, he says.
“It has been said time and again but it is a true family atmosphere and I miss everything about it. Following a terrible year with illness and injury, I need to get my career back on track and I genuinely feel that the BDO offers the best opportunity for me to do this. I can’t wait to tell all my old BDO foes that ‘This is my territory – be on your way’ “.
The Daily Mirror BDO World Trophy takes place from 4-9 February and has a £115,000 prize pot and Special Event ranking points up for grabs. It is open to everyone (subject to BDO eligibility rules) and will include the 2014 newly-crowned men’s Lakeside champion, Stephen Bunting and women’s champion Lisa Ashton.
The winner will also qualify for immediate entry into the playoffs at the Winmau World Masters and next year’s Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships.
The World Trophy, televised by Eurosport and with the Daily Mirror as the headline sponsor, is the first in a year-long programme of events culminating in the Super Series in July.
Tickets range from £5 to £35 for spectators and £20 for men and £15 for ladies to take part. For further information and to register visit www.bdoevents.com or telephone 01709 555343.
